INDIANAPOLIS RACE REPORT
It was a hot night for Team Rocky Mountain ATV/MC-KTM-WPS as round 11 of the Monster Energy Supercross series stopped in the racing town of Indianapolis and the Lucas Oil Stadium. While outside it was cold, the team was on fire inside as Blake Baggett finished 4th.
After a solid week of testing, Blake Baggett came into Indy refreshed and laid down the 5th fastest qualifying time of the day. Carrying that speed into the night, Blake nailed the start and took the lead of his heat race. He slid back a few spots, finishing in 3rd right behind his teammate and directly transferring to the main event.
Confident with his gate choice, Blake flew out of the gate for the main event, leading the field into the first turn and earning the main event holeshot. He led the field for the first few laps of the race before sliding back to 3rd. Blake looked to have another podium ride set before going down about the midpoint of the race. Losing only one position, he rejoined the race and held on to finish 4th at the checkered flag.
“I felt good tonight,” said Blake. “I am getting the starts I need, and it felt good to get the holeshot in the main. Unfortunately, a little mistake cost me a podium. I feel confident on the bike, and the team is working hard. I’m looking forward to Detroit and getting a podium.”
Team Rocky Mountain ATV/MC-KTM-WPS now heads to Ford Field in Detroit, MI, for round 12 of the 2017 Monster Energy Supercross series.
