MUDDY CREEK RACE RECAP

Team Rocky Mountain ATV/MC-KTM-WPS had another podium weekend as round 5 of the 2017 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship series visited Muddy Creek MX in Blountville, TN. Coming into the weekend with the red plate, Blake Baggett overcame adversity to finish on the podium!

Blake Baggett showed up at Muddy Creek ready to win, and with the red plate coving his R-Tech front number plate, he went out in morning practice and posted the sixth fastest qualifying time of the day.

Moto 1 started with Blake battling from the tail end of the top ten. He quickly started to move forward through the field, slicing his way through to the front. With seven laps remaining and the help of his Dunlop tires, Blake became the fastest rider on the track and was steadily closing on the leaders. It was looking like the fans were going to possibly get to see a last lap battle with the time Baggett was shaving down, until he snagged his footpeg in a rut, dropping his bike in the corner right before the finish line jump. He would quickly get up, and put it on cruise control for the final 3 laps to bring home a 3rd place podium finish.

The second moto didn’t start off well for Blake, as he got tangled up in a first-turn pileup. He picked himself up and rejoined the race at the back of the pack. Pulling a tear-off from his Scott goggles, Blake used his superior line choices to put in an incredible charge through the field. After the halfway point, Blake had made his way through the field all the way into the top five. In the end, Blake worked his way to 3rd place at the checkered flag. His 3-3 ride earned him 3rd place overall, and he retains the red plate as the points leader heading into RedBud next weekend.

“Another solid weekend,” said Blake. “The track was good today, and after getting caught up in the first turn in moto2, I just put my head down and worked my way to the front. We got a podium finish and still have the red plate heading into RedBud. We are still charging and ready to get back to the top spot on the podium next weekend.”

Team Rocky Mountain ATV/MC-KTM-WPS will spend the weekend before the 4th of July at the famous RedBud MX in Buchanan, MI, for round 6 of the 2017 Pro Motocross Championship.
